How to clean car glass.

Prepare the surface and towels

Park out of the sun and let the glass cool. You want two towels: one to clean with and a dry one to polish. A towel that has had wax, sealant or interior dressing through it will put all of that straight back onto the glass.

Aftermarket tint, applied films and heated or coated glazing each have their own rules, so check them before you spray. The same goes for any screen inside the car.

The PURE application method

1. Use only on dry cool surfaces out of direct sunlight.
2. Shake the bottle well.
3. Spray directly on glass/paintwork panel or spray onto a clean microfibre towel.
4. Wipe the area thoroughly to remove dirt, insects and road film.
5. Polish the area using a dry microfibre towel.
6. Repeat if required and work in small areas to prevent evaporation of PURE.

Work carefully inside the car

Inside, spray the towel rather than the glass. It keeps the cleaner off the dash, the trim and anything electrical, and you can see exactly where it is going. Work areas small enough that you can polish each one before the product flashes off.

Keep turning to clean towel. Once it is wet and dirty it is only moving things around. Finish with the dry one, then look at the glass from a different angle, because that is where the bit you missed shows up.

If streaks remain

• Check whether the glass got warm, or the product dried before you polished it.
• Try a fresh towel. Residue carried over from another product is the most common cause.
• Work a smaller section and go through the method again.
• If it still will not go, work out what it actually is. Water spotting, bonded deposits, a scratch and a failing coating all look much the same through a windscreen, and none of them come off with more glass cleaner.
